The art of infusing your automations with authenticity
Authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs means knowing when to let systems do the heavy lifting and when to add the human touch. In real life business and as creative midlife entrepreneurs, we know that there is balance in all good things.
While we crave freedom from the keyboard, we also value authenticity.
Knowing exactly what to automate and what to build with heart sets midlife entrepreneurs apart — you can see how I simplified my own systems in my post on How to Simplify Your Business Systems Without Starting Over.
Those years of running barefoot through the woods, drinking out of spigots, and ding-dong ditching gave us an insight into exactly how to personalize what is most important and then automate the rest.
I think about those summers often — how we’d play all day in the neighborhood, never worrying about the time until the streetlights flickered on. Life was simpler, but not without its magic. We didn’t need to document it, brand it, or “leverage” it… we just lived it.
That’s the feeling I want my business to carry — even when automation runs behind the scenes. That’s the beauty of authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs — it lets the business run while you live the moments that matter.
Here is how we can subtly infuse authenticity into our day-to-day automations.
Authentic Automation for Midlife Entrepreneurs
1. Use a mix of pictures — both AI-generated and real-life.
AI-generated images save time and money (no need to schedule a full photoshoot every quarter), but sprinkling in photos from your real life adds the soul. That candid shot of you holding your morning coffee while sitting in bed might not be perfect, but it will be the one people remember. Reality is that last year my photographer charged me $500 to shoot at my location, plus the cost of pictures, the time it took to shoot the photos and the wait to get the photos. Using AI photos, I paid less than $70 for 100 headshots that were delivered in less than an hour. Did I love them all? No. But I loved more than half of them (and my irl girlfriends couldn’t tell they were AI). Click here to check out the company I use.
2. Plug your ideas for content into AI and create content outlines.
Think of AI as your brainstorming partner, not your ghostwriter. Let it structure your thoughts so you can spend more energy adding the stories and personal moments only you can tell.
For instance, when I was ready to create this blog post on authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs, I went to ChatGPT and said, “Here is my idea for this weeks blog post. (Gave it the idea). I want to include these point of views. (Gave it my subsection ideas.) Please create additional subsection point of views for me to consider. Put it together in an outline format.”
Then I took the outline and created the blog post. On occasion if my words are not flowing smoothly, I will take those sentences and feed them back into ChatGPT and ask it to reword it to flow smoothly.
3. Share IRL photos in your social media stories and at least once weekly with content that makes you relatable.
A behind-the-scenes snap of your messy desk, a grandbaby on your lap or your view from the back porch will connect more than a stock photo ever could. Be sure to attach text on screen or a caption that comes from your heart.
Automate the posting so it’s consistent, but let the images be real. This balance is the foundation of authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs — it’s about showing up real while letting systems handle the delivery.
4. Create heartfelt emails, websites, landing pages, and lead magnets one time.
Write them with the full warmth of your voice — then repurpose and automate them to gain time freedom. The heart goes in once, the system takes it from there.
This is another great way to use AI tools. Take the time and create the space for you to be fully present and write from the heart. Your writing does not have to have a particular format. Focus on writing about an idea or process. After you have compiled your thoughts, take it to ChatGPT and plug it in, while asking ChatGPT to create an email, landing page, lead magnet, or website section. As always, be sure to reread and analyze everything ChatGPT gives you. You want your story, language and branding to be the heart of your content — that’s what makes it authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs rather than generic, cookie-cutter marketing.
5. Be IRL in 1:1 calls, networking events, and in-person events.
Be fully present. No distractions. Focus on building relationships. You have to be there anyway, so you might as well rock it. Some of my best collaborations came from the conversations I had in the moments after an event ended, when everyone was leaning back in their chairs and talking like old friends.
Let’s face it — we are craving time freedom, and racing streetlights home or any other form of hustle has long been put to rest.
We are Gen X.
We know the shortest route to the biggest prize.
Let’s be kind and pass it on to the next generation — showing them that you can run a business with both simplicity and soul. That’s the heart of authentic automation for midlife entrepreneurs — systems that run in the background, relationships that stay in the foreground.
