How to Level Up Your Strategies to Drive Results
It was 19 months ago that I first heard the term, SEO. Not going to lie, I was clueless! I’d been running businesses for decades, but this was a whole new world. The third time I heard it, I decided I probably should figure out what it meant because it seemed important for building an online business. That turned out to be the understatement of the century!
Now, after months of trial and error (and a few facepalm moments), SEO has become one of the most powerful tools in my business-building arsenal. Today, I want to take you on a journey to leveling up your strategies with SEO, sharing what I’ve learned along the way so you can skip the overwhelm and jump straight into results.
Optimize Your Bio for Niche-Specific Searches
When I first started, I thought of my bio as a simple introduction—a line or two about who I was. But here’s what I didn’t realize: your bio is searchable. That means it’s prime real estate for keywords that reflect your expertise and help you get discovered by the right audience.
For example, instead of just saying “Business coach,” I could update my bio to “Business coach for midlife entrepreneurs helping women turn passions into profit.” Adding those specific keywords made me easier to find for women searching for guidance in starting an online business.
If your bio doesn’t already include keywords about who you help and how, it’s time for an update. Think about the exact words your ideal audience might type into a search bar and make sure your bio reflects that.
Use Long-Tail Keywords to Attract Qualified Leads
When I started writing blog posts and captions, I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a “long-tail keyword.” I thought using a broad term like “content marketing” was enough to bring in traffic. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
Long-tail keywords are more specific phrases that help you attract the right audience. For example, instead of just saying “content marketing,” you might say “content marketing for women over 40.” By being more specific, you’re not only setting yourself apart, but you’re also connecting with people who are looking for exactly what you offer.
When I started incorporating long-tail keywords into my blogs, captions, and even podcast titles, I noticed an immediate shift. The people finding me weren’t just browsing—they were ready to take action. That’s the magic of long-tail keywords.
Leverage SEO Across Multiple Platforms
I used to think SEO was just for websites, but here’s the truth: SEO can work for you on nearly every platform your audience uses. When I started optimizing my LinkedIn profile, LinkedIn articles and Instagram captions with the same long-tail keywords, my visibility skyrocketed.
Think of every platform as an opportunity to meet your audience where they already are. On LinkedIn, I updated my profile headline to include niche-specific keywords. On Instagram, I added keywords to my captions and hashtags. I even started using SEO to name my LinkedIn articles, making it easier for people to find my content while searching.
Collaborating with others was another game-changer. When I guested on Lives or co-wrote articles with other creators, my reach expanded to their audiences too. That’s a double win for SEO and visibility.
Use SEO in Social Media Comments
One surprising trick I learned was how powerful SEO can be in the comments section. I used to leave generic comments like, “Great post!” but I quickly realized that wasn’t helping me connect with people or boost my visibility.
Now, when I engage with posts, I include niche-specific keywords naturally in my comments. For example, instead of saying, “This is so helpful!” I might write, “This is such great advice for midlife women looking to start their own business!” It’s subtle, but it makes a huge difference in how people discover me through social media searches.
Your Visibility Blueprint
Looking back, learning SEO felt like trying to decode a foreign language. But once I got the hang of it, I saw how powerful it could be in helping me reach the right people. SEO isn’t just a tool—it’s your visibility blueprint, and it works across platforms to make your content go further.
Start with one step at a time. Update your bio with niche-specific keywords. Experiment with long-tail keywords in your captions or blogs. And the next time you comment on a post, think about how you can naturally incorporate keywords.
SEO doesn’t have to be intimidating. It’s a simple way to make your content work harder for you and connect with the people who need what you offer most.
